Bio

Dr Ong is a cardiologist who subspecialises in interventional cardiology. He graduated from the University of Cambridge Medical School, and pursued his cardiology specialist training in heart centres at Hammersmith, Royal Brompton, and Harefield Hospitals.

He has been involved in the introduction and clinical adoption of modern cardiology technologies in the Asia-Pacific, including renal denervation for hypertension, intravascular lithotripsy for the treatment of calcified blood vessels, and the use of the Impella heart pump to support patients undergoing high-risk angioplasty.

Dr Ong served as Cardiology Consultant and Cath Lab Director at The Lister Hospital and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust from 2006. In 2008, he was elected as a Fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Cardiology. In Singapore, he previously held the position of Head of Interventional Cardiology Service at TTSH.

Dr Ong established the Asia Primary Angioplasty Congress (APAC) and the Asia Physiology and Coronary Imaging Course (APACi), which serve as regional platforms for professional education and knowledge exchange in interventional cardiology.

He was a principal investigator in more than 20 large-scale randomised trials. His work has been published in over 60 medical journals, and he has contributed to the professional community through participation in scientific meeting committees and advisory boards.
