Dr Tan received his medical degree from Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore. He completed specialist training in SingHealth Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Sciences, followed by a fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, USA.
He specialises in providing pain relief for labour and surgery, as well as anaesthesia for caesarean delivery and gynaecological surgeries.
Dr Tan has a keen interest in postoperative pain research and medical device innovation, and has been awarded several clinical research grants, including the Nurturing Clinical Researcher Scheme and Philanthropy Grant (SingHealth, Singapore), Joint Medtech Grant (SingHealth & NHIC, Singapore), Clinician Scientist Seed Grant (Ministry of Health, Singapore), and the DREAM Innovation Grant (Duke University, USA).
He received the National Outstanding Clinician Scientist Resident Award (Ministry of Health, Singapore) and the Khoo Scholars Program Award (Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore) in recognition of his research contributions.
Dr Tan has authored over 40 research publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He is also an editor with the Journal of Maternal-Foetal & Neonatal Medicine and a reviewer for the Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare.
